OMAHA, Neb. – The Ohio State men’s basketball team topped Creighton, 69-60, ending the contest on a 13-0 run Thursday night at CHI Health Center Omaha. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 3-0 on the year while the Bluejays suffer their first loss and fall to 2-1.

Keyshawn Woods led all scorers with 19 points, his most in a Buckeye uniform, to go along with four assists while Duane Washington Jr. added 12 points. Ty-Shon Alexander paced the Bluejays with 16 points to go along with six rebounds while Davion Mintz scored 12.

Creighton jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the 14:36 mark after a 3-pointer by Alexander but Woods caught fire from the field and the Buckeyes forced 11 Bluejay turnovers as Ohio State held a 37-25 lead at the half. After Creighton’s early lead, Ohio State went on a 17-4 run over the next 7:05 to take a 19-14 advantage. The Bluejays then made it a 23-21 ballgame after a pair of Jacob Epperson free throws with 4:43 remaining before the break but it was all Ohio State from there as the Buckeyes concluded the half on a 14-4 spurt to go into the half up 12.

Woods scored 15 points in the first half while Washington Jr. added eight and Kaleb Wesson poured in seven. Alexander led the Bluejays with eight in the opening half.

However, Creighton chipped away at the Buckeye advantage coming out of the break and knotted the score at 48-48 after an Alexander 3-pointer with 9:47 left to play. The Bluejays then took a 55-54 lead after a Martin Krampelj tip-in with 5:40 remaining and extended their advantage to 60-56 on a Mitch Ballock 3-pointer with just less than three minutes remaining.

The bucket by Ballock would be the last points of the night for the Bluejays, however, as Washington Jr. responded with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 60-59 with 2:42 left to play and C.J. Jackson, who scored all six of his points in the final three minutes, put the Buckeyes on top with a 3-pointer of his own on the following possession. After a missed jumper by Alexander on the other end, Kyle Young hammered home a dunk off a feed from Woods and the Buckeyes were on their way to a 13-0 run to close the game and earn their third-straight win to start the season.

The Buckeyes return home to take on South Carolina State at 2 p.m. Sunday at Value City Arena.
