Buckeyes Improve to 4-0 with 89-61 Win over South Carolina State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s basketball team defeated South Carolina State, 89-61, Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena. With the win, the Buckeyes move to 4-0 on the year while the Bulldogs drop to 1-3.

Kaleb Wesson led five Buckeyes in double figures with 18 points. Duane Washington Jr. added 14 points, Luther Muhammad and Jaedon LeDee each scored 12 and Andre Wesson chipped in with 11. Damni Applewhite scored 15 and pulled down six boards for the Bulldogs.

Ohio State jumped out to the early 8-2 lead on a C.J. Jackson 3 pointer at the 17:43 mark of the first half. South Carolina State scored the next four to make it 8-6 with 16:05 left in the half but Ohio State went on a 25-6 run over the next 9:50 to push its lead to 33-12 with 6:15 to go and eventually went into the break with a 43-21 advantage.

Kaleb Wesson had the hot hand over the first 20 minutes, pouring in 17 points, while Andre Wesson added seven points and five boards. South Carolina State’s Applewhite totaled a team-high 10 points in the first half as Ohio State limited the Bulldogs to 8-for-29 shooting.

In the second half, Ohio State pushed its lead to 35 at 82-47 with 4:27 remaining after a pair of free throws from Jaedon LeDee as the Buckeyes picked up their fourth-consecutive win to start the season.

For the game, the Buckeyes shot 54.9 percent from the field and limited the Bulldogs to 37.1 percent shooting. Ohio State led a 23-2 advantage in fast-break points and a 40-27 lead in rebounds.

The Buckeyes host Samford at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
