Call for presentations and participation: Battelle/Ohio State Workshop on Big Data and Cyber-Security

Posted:

When: Wednesday, December 5, 2012
Where: Dreese Laboratories 260, The Ohio State University

As the rapid advancement of computer, networking and storage systems, the society is facing two critical and urgent challenges: big data and cyber-security. The explosive growth in the amount data comes from various applications in the network connected world including our personal devices, digital sensors, data centers, data-driven analytics sites, and social networks. This fact is simply characterized as “big data”. The computing research community and  industry are making efforts to build new system infrastructure to manage big data both in archival format (data warehouses) and real-time ways, and to develop efficient algorithms and solutions for deep analytics in order to gain new knowledge and values from big data.

As increasingly more human activities are involved in computers and Internet or in the cyber space, its stability, safety, and reliability have become critical to human society. The related issues belong to the area of cyber-security. The society has experienced increasingly more cyber intrusions and attacks, leaks of sensitive and private information, and cyber disruptions of critical transactions of government agencies and business organizations. Cyber-security is a part of national security, which affects our daily and economic engines.

The objective of this workshop is to provide a strong forum for researchers of big data and cyber-security from both Battelle and Ohio State  to present, discuss, and to prepare collaborations in the areas of big data and cyber-security. The workshop will be held in one day, consisting of multiple technical talks.

If you are interested in giving a presentation in this workshop, please send a title, an abstract and a short bio of you to Xiaodong Zhang (zhang@cse.ohio-state.edu) by November 15, 2012.
