Ohio Sea Grant is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 International Joint Commission – Ohio Sea Grant Fellowship, based in Windsor, Ontario. The fellow will work at the International Joint Commission Great Lakes Regional Office for one year focusing on international water policy and management issues in the Great Lakes. The Fellow will assist the IJC in its efforts to uphold the statements set forth by the 1909 Boundary Waters Treaty.

The fellowship program is sponsored by the International Joint Commission and the Ohio Sea Grant College Program. Application materials are due to Ohio Sea Grant by February 23, 2018 at 5 p.m. EST.

The one-year fellowship runs June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019, with negotiable start and end dates based on academic or other needs. The fellowship award consists of $47,500 in compensation and addtional funds for health insurance and fellowship-related travel.

ELIGIBILITY

Any student who, as of February 10, 2018, is enrolled in a graduate or professional program in natural resources, public health, marine, coastal, Great Lakes, or aquatic-related field, or the international policy decisions that affect those fields, at a U.S. accredited institution of higher education may apply. Applicants must have completed or are completing a master’s, doctoral, or professional degree before May 31, 2018 to be eligible. Individuals who are within three years of their original graduation date are preferred. U.S. citizenship is not required.

Application requirements

Applications must include:

  • Two signed letters of recommendation, including one from the student’s major professor; if no major professor exists, a faculty person academically knowing the applicant best may be substituted.
  • A personal education and career goal statement emphasizing the applicant’s abilities and what the applicant expects to gain from the fellowship experience in the way of career development (1,000 words or less). 
  • Personal and academic curriculum vitae (not to exceed two pages).
  • Clear, scanned copy of all official undergraduate and graduate student transcripts.
  • Listing of classes and/or plans for spring 2018, summer 2018 and fall 2018 (not to exceed one page).
